Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies says The Beatles are set to appear in series 14.

Teasing what's to come for Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Time Lord and Millie Gibson's companion Ruby Sunday, Davies began with: "It's funny because it's 60 years old and I wish I knew the answer to [what about Doctor Who works so well with audiences]. And I think every single production team for 60 years has been chasing after the answer to that.

"You never quite know. We never pin them down. We never actually sit there and say he's this, he's that. We don't."

The boss, who also created It's a Sin and Queer as Folk, went on to tease: "You see the next episode, it's completely different. The other one after that, that's The Beatles. That's nuts. It keeps changing. It's always beyond your reach.

"I think it helps very much that everybody on the show knows the children are watching it.

"It's not a children's show," caveated Davies, "but that's a different atmosphere when you're coming to work and their kids or their neighbour's kids or their nephews and nieces are all watching it.

"That's very different to working on most shows that are just about a murder in a cottage or something. So it's a nice, lovely show."

As far as The Fab Four's Doctor Who involvement goes, there's not a single crumb of information out there yet, but what we're predicting is The Doctor and Ruby venturing to 1964 at the height of Beatlemania.

Doctor Who continues with 'The Church on Ruby Road', airing on Christmas Day (December 25). The show airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere.

Classic episodes of Doctor Who are now made available via BBC iPlayer in the UK as well.
