Doctor Who spoilers follow.

Doctor Who has teased Ncuti Gatwa's impending arrival in a teaser for the final of the show's anniversary specials.

This evening's (December 2) second special ended on a huge cliffhanger, with the world ending as the Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) returned to Earth.

The Doctor will be facing off against classic enemy The Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris) in next weekend's episode 'The Giggle', as the villain declares in the newly-released teaser: "The Timelord and the Toymaker – one final game".

The Sex Education star will air his first full episode this Christmas Day, called 'The Church on Ruby Road'.

Meanwhile, ahead of tonight's episode 'Wild Blue Yonder' – which didn't deliver any big surprise cameos as speculated – director Tom Kingsley clarified that secrecy around the episode was more down to the story.

"I had the massive honour of directing a new episode of Doctor Who, with the dream team of Tennant, Tate and RTD. 'Wild Blue Yonder' is out on Saturday, it's weird and exciting, and the plot is a TOTAL SECRET. I can't wait to see what happens in it," he wrote on X/Twitter.

"Fan PSA: the story of 'Wild Blue Yonder' isn't a secret because there are any surprise returning actors or villains. It's just because we thought you might find it fun to watch it without knowing what's going to happen next. Promise!"

Doctor Who returns for three 60th anniversary specials, continuing with 'The Giggle' on December 9. The show airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere.

Classic episodes of Doctor Who are now made available via BBC iPlayer in the UK as well.
