The BBC has confirmed that Lee Mack's award-winning comedy series Not Going Out will receive a festive special as part of the broadcaster's upcoming Christmas TV schedule, marking the sitcom's 100th episode on air.

Starring series creator Mack alongside Death in Paradise's Sally Bretton as Lee and Lucy, the upcoming 100th episode will see chaos as Lee attempts to create the perfect suburban family Christmas, agreeing to Lucy's wishes to have "a normal Christmas where nothing goes wrong".

Feeling inspired by the festive spirit, the couple decide to do something charitable and invite a resident from the nearby care home over to their house to join their celebrations.

The family are met by a lonely pensioner named Wilfred, with the family given only one instruction from the home – Wilfred must not under any circumstances drink alcohol.

Wilfred isn't the only guest around the dinner table either, as best friends Toby (Hugh Dennis) and Anna (Abigail Cruttenden) will be on hand to help make sure the day runs smoothly, as well as Lucy's mum Wendy (Deborah Grant) and Lee's dad Geoffrey (Geoffrey Whitehead).

Will Lee be able to give his family the perfect Christmas they are all hoping for, or will something ruin their plans and festive spirit?
