The upcoming specials, which begin with ‘The Star Beast’, see Tennant assume the role of the Fourteenth Doctor, with showrunner Russell T Davies confirming that he would possess different characteristics from his previous iteration as the Time Lord.
“[He’s] slightly more human than before,” teased Davies, before he spoke about the process of writing for returning characters. “I didn't even go and watch an old episode on iPlayer because they never quite go really.

“It gets passed on down generations and I love that and I think the crew are very much aware that they're part of a history that their kids will be watching or their kids' kids will be watching, and that creates a really lovely atmosphere on set.”
Following the premiere of ‘The Star Beast’, Doctor Who will return for the next two Saturdays with ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’. In addition to Tennant and Tate, confirmed cast members include Neil Patrick Harris and Yasmin Finney.
Doctor Who returns for three 60th anniversary specials, beginning with 'The Star Beast' on November 25. The show airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere.
Classic episodes of Doctor Who are now made available via BBC iPlayer in the UK as well.
