Plebs is going out in the most epic way possible, with a feature-length special on ITVX.

They all join previously announced cast members Tori Allen-Martin as Barbronelda, a warrior queen of an all-female tribe; Kare Conradi as Segimundus, an erudite Barbarian leader and Patrick Baladi as Roman commander General Diomedes.

Speaking about the feature-length special Sam Leifer, the show's director and co-writer, said: "After a decade on air we've lasted longer than most Roman emperors. And unlike the emperors, it's nice not to get prematurely axed but instead decide our own ending.

"We've had a blast making this show and are proud of what we've achieved with the finale. Getting to see Tom Rosenthal cry when we wrapped was also a career highlight."

In April 2020, shortly after its fifth season aired, it was announced that Plebs would be ending with a feature-length special. At the time Leifer had said: "After five series, we wanted to go out with a bang.

"So we're sending the plebs off to join the army. Unsurprisingly, they won't cover themselves in glory or return as conquering heroes. Personally, I'm looking forward to watching Tom crawling on his hands and knees through the mud."
