Bloodlands star James Nesbitt has teased that his character's "dark secret" could be revealed in series 2.

Fans of the show will know that the actor's character DCI Tom Brannick is actually the secret assassin known as Goliath.

While he hasn't been unmasked to the other characters yet, Nesbitt noted on The One Show last night (October 6) that the show is "constantly leaning towards" him being rumbled.

"It's quite an interesting character to play because, you know, obviously he's got a very dark secret and there's a side to time – he's quite Jekyll and Hyde, I suppose," he further noted.

"But he would suggest he's doing it all for his daughter. So it's interesting for the audience to be constantly thinking, 'Well there's a goodness to the man, and a decency at his core'."

Series 2 debuted last month, and introduced new character Olivia Foyle, who "lies" to pretty much everyone on the show, star Victoria Smurfit recently revealed.

"At all times, whoever she's in the room with, she's lying to at least all of them. And that was really fun. So in order to try and do that, I thought if my mouth says one thing and my eyes say something else and then my body says something else," she told Radio Times.

"What I was trying to do was to play the three levels differently, because you have to switch, because I'm having one conversation with Jimmy, with Brannick, and then another conversation with Charlene [McKenna]'s character (Niamh McGovern) and then my lawyer or whoever else is in the scene."

The star added: "And they're completely different stories that I'm telling them in the same line, the same paragraph. So it was really, really exciting. There was no room for dialling it in on this show."

Bloodlands season 2 airs on BBC One.
