Derry Girls boss Lisa McGee has spilled some details on a spin-off concept for the Channel 4 comedy series that she loves the idea of.
Derry Girls is sadly coming to an end when its third season concludes, but it seems that there is still plenty of appetite for more Derry action from the show's fans.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, McGee admitted that making a spin-off show isn't on the cards right now, but that she does have some thoughts on what a related series could focus on.

"I wouldn't do a spin-off now, and I have no plans to do a spin-off," she said. "I have all this stuff that's been put to one side because I wanted to finish Derry Girls properly, and put all my focus on that and do it justice, but those things have to sort of move up the queue.
"So I wouldn't be able to make another for a while even if I wanted to, but I always thought, just for my own amusement. There's something in Aunt Sarah and Ma Mary, and there's something in Jenny Joyce and her little sidekick Aisling."

McGee went on to explain just why she'd love to keep following prefect Jenny (Leah O'Rourke) and her friend Aisling (Beccy Henderson), who have been a constant thorn in the side of the show's main gang of friends.
"Jenny thinks she's in a different show. Jenny's in an American high school. She's like Beverly Hills, not Derry Girls, and I just love her energy," she explained. "It's so kind of... I mean, it's very annoying, but I love how she's a character that changes the direction of the story, and they're rare.

"She pushes against the tide, most people on Derry Girls are on the same side if you know what I mean? But Jenny's the opposite of that so she can change the direction of the show, and that's why I'm writing her so much. So I thought she might be a fun sort of villainous one to follow.
"She's not even doing anything that wrong, but it's just her world view is so different. So I like the idea of her maybe being in a neighbourhood watch or something where she thinks she's doing the right thing, but actually everyone just hates her."
While we may not be getting a spin-off anytime soon, we do have the final few episodes of the main show still to look forward to, and actor Dylan Llewellyn, who plays James Maguire, has teased that we can expect a satisfying ending.
"I'm sad it's the end of an era, but happy because Lisa McGee has written such a perfect ending," he said. "It feels like the right time to stop. Quality, not quantity."
Derry Girls season three airs on Tuesday evenings on Channel 4. The show is also available to watch on All 4.
