Saturday Night Takeaway spin-off In for a Penny premieres its new series next week, it's been confirmed.

This news was announced during tonight's (April 2) instalment of Takeaway, which itself sent In for a Penny presenter Stephen Mulhern into the recording booths of BBC Radio 1 to wreak havoc on its team of DJs for the revival of 'On Air Dares'.

In for a Penny officially returns on Saturday, April 9 at 6.30pm on ITV.

Next to a trailer – packed with laughs, embarrassment and ridiculousness – Mulhern tweeted: "Diaries out, cancel your plans! Just one week to go until the brand new series of #InForAPenny starts on @itv."

The show's imminent return was warmly received on social media too, as a pair of reactions read: "In For A Penny is one of my all-time favourite ever shows. It's the epitome of feel-good telly x" and: "The only programme we can watch as a family and all roll about laughing. Can't wait!"

Meanwhile, the TV presenter was recently forced out of appearing on Takeaway for three consecutive weeks after falling ill.

Explaining his absence, Mulhern wrote to his fans: "Hello all, Sorry I've been quiet on here recently and thank you for all your lovely messages. I've had some time off and been resting up on doctors orders.

"I'm on the mend, I'm happy to say, and looking forward to getting back to work soon. In the meantime I'll put my feet up and watch Saturday Night Takeaway tonight with the rest of you lot. Please don't miss me too much! Lots of love, Stephen. X."

In for a Penny premieres next Saturday on ITV at 6.30pm, with Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway concluding its current series straight after at 7pm.
