His Dark Materials' Ruth Wilson teases season 3 return date

A few months after the BBC's adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series announced its newest cast members, Ruth Wilson – who plays Mrs Coulter – has revealed when the drama is set to return.

Appearing on today's (March 14) The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, Ruth confirmed that, as far she knows, season three of His Dark Materials will air "this November".

"That's what I'm hearing," she said, before telling listeners that the new episodes will see the events of last season coming "to a head".

"[It's] very exciting," she said. "You'll see more of Asriel, and Marisa, Mrs Coulter, and Lyra."

She then added: "That all comes out in November."

Ruth's comments come after James McAvoy recently promised a "war" in the third season, which is based on Pullman's final entry in the trilogy, The Amber Spyglass.

"What can I tell you? It's war. At the end of the second season we sort of declare war on the Kingdom of Heaven, so yeah it gets pretty down and dirty, and there's gonna be a lot of fisticuffs and a lot of explosions and all that stuff," the Lord Asriel actor teased on The One Show.

"But at its heart it's about a wee girl and a wee boy... and not the adults with the egos."

Last year, His Dark Materials confirmed that Sian Clifford and Jonathan Aris have joined the show, as Agent Salmakia and Commander Roke, characters described as 'Gallivespian Spies' in the novels.

Alongside Wilson and McAvoy, Dafne Keen will be back as Lyra Belacqua, with Amir Wilson also returning as Will Parry.

His Dark Materials airs on BBC One in the UK and HBO in the US.
