Jodie Whittaker's run as Doctor Who isn't over yet, but fans are already busy speculating about who the next Doctor will be.

Talking to Digital Spy for Munich: The Edge of War, Anjli Mohindra – who appeared in The Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who – revealed her own excellent suggestions, including a Walking Dead star.

"I think a lot of the people that I'd love to see play that role, have already played a part in the Whoniverse. Lydia West is a very interesting fan favourite," she explained.

"I actually think that Lennie James would be absolutely incredible. I don't know if a lot of people have thought of him but I think he'd be really cool. And Vinette Robinson, I think, would also be a fantastic Doctor."

Lennie James might be a bit busy right now with Fear the Walking Dead, but we'd absolutely love to see him in the TARDIS.

This year marks the 15-year anniversary of The Sarah Jane Adventures which saw Mohindra play Rani Chandra, a role she reprised for 2020's heartwarming special episode 'Farewell, Sarah Jane'.

The episode, in tribute to Elisabeth Sladen, as a "lovely trip down memory lane" and the show overall is something that Mohindra will always be thankful for.

"It's a show I cut my teeth on as an actor, and will always hold in such high regard, and remember so fondly. Because it was my training ground, and I made friends on that job that I will carry with me for the rest of my life," she reflected.

"It's just a really nice feeling as a human being to relive those moments. But also, it really brings home just how respected that show is, and how beautiful the themes that we explored in it were, and how adult some of those themes were, too.

"It didn't shy away from heavier topics, even though it was a children's TV show. And occasionally when, you know, reading things on Twitter or meeting fans of the show, you realise how much it hits people on a very personal level."

Mohindra's appearance in Doctor Who series 12 episode 'Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror' saw her play a different role as Queen Skithra, rather than Rani Chandra

She's open to future appearances in Doctor Who, especially if it means she gets to show off her villainous side again.

"In The Sarah Jane Adventures, I was playing Rani most of the time. But once I did get taken over by Androvax, I think, and had a moment of being a bit evil for a hot sec. But, yeah, playing a villain is really exciting," Mohindra noted.

"It made me look back on my time filming Sarah Jane, and thinking of all the amazing villains we had in, and how much fun they must have had terrorising people."

Munich: The Edge of War is available to watch on Netflix from January 21.

Doctor Who will air two more specials later this year on BBC One in the UK. In the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max.
