Committing to new TV shows is hard. For starters, we're all spoilt for choice in the era of 'peak TV' and the endless evening Netflix scroll is an all-too-familiar dilemma. But beyond that, they're often cancelled just as you fall in love with them, or take a massive nosedive in quality just a few seasons in.
But I'm happy to say that's never been the case for Netflix's Sex Education, which is easily one of the best new shows the streamer has produced, as well as being one of the very best new shows of the last few years. In fact, you ranked it as your 19th best TV show of the 21st century in the poll in our debut issue.

The tales of Moordale Secondary School's sexually frustrated, confused and obsessed teens exist in a parallel Americana-style reality with lockers, no uniforms, cheerleaders, and jocks, all despite being filmed in Wales. Yet it effortlessly nails the very real, very confusing, and often very messy journey to sexual awakening across the full spectrum of sexuality, and really feels like an accurate representation for young people in 2021.
Forget the oversexed hedonists of Skins, the fake boasts of Jay from The Inbetweeners or even the gross-out puberty gags in Big Mouth – Sex Education covers everything from anal-sex procedure to STIs to sexual assault to asexuality to teen pregnancy across an even broader range of characters. No-one feels wasted, and it's all interwoven with beautiful humour that will easily leave you with a huge smile on your face, no matter your age.
So, as we look ahead to Netflix's Sex Education season 3 on September 17, we thought what better time to rejoice in the way the show and its beloved cast of characters (who doesn't want Eric as a best mate, eh?) has taught many how it's done.
