As the series unfolded, we learned that brewery boss Jack Evans' (Aneurin Barnard) death was the result of foul play, along with plenty of other twists and turns along the way. After learning that Anna's (Laura Fraser) daughter Tam was pregnant with Jack's baby in last night's episode, The Pact confirmed that Tam was also the one who killed Jack in its final episode after she and her brother Ryan found him tied up in the woods.
But while Anna insisted that she would protect her daughter by taking the blame for Jack's death, the family were later shocked to hear that someone else had already confessed to the murder – Anna's best friend Nancy (Julie Hesmondhalgh), who insisted that she had acted alone.

Later, while locked up in a holding cell, she managed to have one final chat with Anna on a smuggled mobile and shared that this was her way of atoning for what happened the night that Jack had died, after struggling with her guilt since Jack's death.
She also added that Tam had her whole life ahead of her and was going to need her mum in it, with the episode – and the series – then ending with Nancy in a prison cell for a crime she didn't commit.
It was one final twist in a series that had viewers gripped to their seats throughout, and as the finale aired on television, fans praised the "amazing" show, calling it "one of the most compelling" they'd ever seen.
The Pact is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
