People Just Do Nothing's hapless garage wannabes Kurupt FM parted ways in series 5 of the BBC mockumentary, yet the group have gone on to massive success with their comedy-DJ live act, which has seen them release podcasts and albums, organise their own mini-festival, collaborate with Craig David, and get ready to play Glastonbury replacement Live at Worthy Farm.

Now, Grindah (Allan Mustafa), Steves (Steve Stamp), Chabuddy G (Asim Chaudhry), and DJ Beats (Hugo Chegwin) are set to hit the big screen with People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan, which lands in cinemas on August 18.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about a potential revival of the BBC series (while in character we hasten to add), Grindah said: "I loved my time on People Just Do Nothing and all that when they filmed us for the BBC. But it was a big miscommunication because when they first approached us, I always thought it was going to be a live feed of me MC-ing for ages at pirate radio. Not when I'd get things wrong, or about my family. Do you know what I mean?

"I wanted to be able to edit it all. They wouldn't let me. It was hard to say no, because they were throwing literally hundreds of quid at us, for like a month's work. It was hard to say no at the time. But I just feel like, you know, it's the last time I'm putting on my tap shoes and doing that dance. But with the film, it's like another step up."

Speaking to Digital Spy previously about their decision to end the BBC show, Allan 'Seapa' Mustafa, aka Grindah, said: "We didn't want to rinse it. We just wanted to leave it, hopefully, special and end it on, hopefully, a high. We always had a really strong vision of how it ends, from around series two onward."

Addressing whether Big in Japan could be the first part of a movie series, Grindah added: "We are in talks about a five-part trilogy. I mean, when I say 'in talks', it's more like me, Beats and Steves saying, 'Wouldn't it be mad to do that one day?'"

Unsurprisingly, Grindah wanted sequels to be about him. Steves explained: "All of this is really building up to a sort of long-term plan, which is the Grindah five-part trilogy of his life story."

Grindah added: "One of them is just an hour-long stand-up special. When before the age of 16 you lived in Florida and headed up the Bloods and the Crips, what does the Brit Awards really mean? Do you know what I mean?"

The gang have also teamed up with Subway for a new online mini-series hosted on the sandwich chain's YouTube channel, and playing in stores from May 17 – just don't expect to hear their actual music.

Steves said: "Well, [Subway] said that the music was quite jarring and ruining the vibe in the place," while Grindah added: "There's a little bit of MC-ing, but a lot of the time, people felt intimidated by my lyrics, I feel. We've had to strip it back to a bit of chatting as well."

And what sort of chat can you expect? Well, sandwiches and what superhero they would be, of course. Steves explained: "We've talked about a lot of topics. The most important topics that there are probably in the world, probably."

Kurupt FM, from the BAFTA Award-winning series People Just Do Nothing, are taking over Subway's in-store radio station in its 2,200 stores across the UK and Ireland for a week from May 17, 2021. The daily takeover can be heard in-store, as well as on Subway's YouTube and across social media channels.

People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan is released in cinemas on August 18, 2021.
