The A Word's third series came to a conclusion tonight (June 9) and the TV drama certainly ended on a dramatic note as Rebecca (Molly Wright) welcomed her baby.
Rebecca enjoyed a visit to her little brother Joe's (Max Vento) school to teach his class about pregnancy and the trip helped to allay her own concerns about her baby's future, after she previously confessed to her mum that she was worried about their arrival.
But things took a turn for the worse when Rebecca started experiencing stomach pains while driving back home from Manchester to the Lake District and realised she was going into labour, with only a frightened Joe on hand to help her.
Thankfully, Joe got help for Rebecca by wandering down the road until he encountered a couple in another car, who located Rebecca and got her the help she needed.
Viewers were loving Joe's heroics and were delighted when the new member of the family arrived safely as Rebecca gave birth to a baby girl:

The series three finale also saw Alison (Morven Christie) and Paul's (Lee Ingleby) budding new relationships with Ben (David Gyasi) and Sarah (Gemma Paige North) respectively come to an end, as Ben pointed out to Alison that his feelings for her were stronger than hers for him and Sarah told Paul that she wasn't feeling ready for their relationship.
Alison and Paul later shared the news about their break-ups with each other and vowed to devote their time to helping Rebecca with their new granddaughter.
Louise (Pooky Quesnel) was also struggling after her son Ralph (Leon Harrop) moved into his new flat with his wife Katie (Sarah Gordy), which prompted her partner Maurice (Christopher Eccleston) to decide to move in with her.
Their arrangement fell flat very quickly as within a few hours they were already sick of each other's constant presence – and after agreeing that their relationship works better when they have their own space, they decided that Maurice should head back home.
But after Rebecca's baby had arrived, an emotional Maurice asked Louise to marry him and, judging by the ring on her finger in the closing moments of the episode, she said yes.
The episode ended with the family enjoying a photoshoot together, with Rebecca revealing that she'd named her daughter Rosie.
The happy ending resulted in some very delighted fans, who praised the "beautiful" episode:
