Blood spoilers follow.
Blood returned to Channel 5 tonight (April 27), a year after the first series gripped viewers with its unexpected storylines and twists.
Led by Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar, the first run of the psychological thriller told the story of a young woman named Cat (Carolina Main), who returned to her childhood home in rural Ireland following the death of her mother Mary.

Following various twists and turns, it transpired that Cat's father Jim (Dunbar) assisted Mary's death per her request, since she was suffering with Motor Neurone Disease.
Tonight's series 2 premiere picked up where things left off, with Jim eagerly trying to restore his relationship with his family.

However, what started out as a slightly awkward family atmosphere eventually descended into something far more sinister.
Tonight's premiere opened up with a flashback of Cat's sister Fiona (Gráinne Keenan) winding up in a serious car accident, which involved her having to escape from the vehicle as it became submerged in water.
It turns out Fiona suffers from the same condition as her mother, which is what caused the crash.
However, in a shocking twist at the end of the episode, it was revealed that her husband Paul was trapped inside the boot of the car and drowned to death.
The episode ended with Fiona being arrested for Paul's murder, but with their son involved in some drug drama with his 'friends', it's clear that there's more to this mystery.
And just like that, viewers are already gripped by the second series, with many taking to Twitter to praise the premiere and its surprise cliffhanger.
Blood continues tomorrow night (April 28) at 9pm on Channel 5.
