New Doctor Who story puts Jodie Whittaker's character in lockdown

Doctor Who fans may have wondered how the adventurous Doctor would cope with being locked down in one place, just as the world is right now, and if that's you, you're in luck!

Fans can now find out thanks to a brand new short story featuring Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor.

'The Shadow Passes' has been written by Paul Cornell, who has previously penned three episodes of Doctor Who as well as a series of novels featuring the character, and is available to read on the Doctor Who website right now.

The story is beautifully relatable and hopeful for the time we find ourselves in now.

The tale sees the Doctor bring her companions Yaz Khan, Ryan Sinclair and Graham O'Brien to Calapia, a place known for its "rural charm", "beautiful weather" and friendly locals.

But upon exploring, they discover that the people are nowhere to be found but instead Graham spots a "tiny bit worrying" sign reading 'This way to the shelters'.

Before they know it they've been taken into an underground shelter by the Calapians having discovered that a 'Death Moon' is passing over the planet, which will keep them confined with the people of the planet in these shelters for three weeks while they wait for the moon to pass.

It turns out that the Doctor isn't phased by being confined, saying: "Three weeks of indoor games! Result!" – with one of these games featuring a cheeky nod to Lewis Capaldi (the real-life relative of Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi).

The group go on to find more games to play and more topics to chat about and they even take themselves off on occasional brisk walks, before finding a way to help the Calapians distribute food to all the people who are confined in the shelters.

And as the group prepare to head outside again, the Doctor says: "In the midst of death, we are in life. Together."

Since the lockdown began, a number of re-watches have been held of popular Who episodes to keep fans entertained, with the likes of former showrunner Steven Moffat, Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith and Amy Pond actress Karen Gillan live-tweeting along with fans.

We were even treated to a brand new scene featuring Eleventh Doctor companions Amy (Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill), written by Neil Gaiman, which saw Rory recording a message for his and Amy's baby son.
