Ricky Gervais is known for ending his TV shows after two series. The Office. Extras. Derek. (And Life's Too Short was even shorter).

The comedian's latest project After Life is back on Netflix this month for a second run, but will it follow the Gervais mantra of ending before it runs the risk of wearing out its welcome?

Surprisingly, no. The star told The Mirror he won't end the show now like his previous ones, because he feels like he's created something that won't wear thin.

He explained: "This one, I want to do a third, I think. Because I've never set up such a world before. This is a real place.

"Every path leads to the rest of the world. Like real life. Every path leads to a new world, and how often do you know a character?

"You've seen those characters for five and a half hours. You don't know anyone after five and a half hours, and you don't know their friends.

Last year, during the writing of series 2, Gervais stated that he thought he would follow his less-is-more approach and do a special rather than a third series to wrap things up, but if series 2 is good enough to have changed his mind then it looks like we're in for a treat.

After Life's first series is currently available to stream on Netflix UK. The show's second series will premiere on April 24.
