The seventh series of the con-artist drama, starring Adrian Lester and Robert Glenister, grabbed 5.74m (22.2%) in the 9pm hour.
Meanwhile, one-off magician show Penn & Teller - which featured Jonathan Ross - took a respectable 4.17m (16.5%) for ITV1 between 9pm and 10.30pm.
Elsewhere, Celebrity Mastermind concluded on a commendable 5.64m (24.3%) for BBC One at 7pm, then A Question Of Sport scored 4m (16.4%). At 8pm, Children's Hospital logged 3.59m (13.8%) for ITV1, while at 8.30pm, 4.02m (14.8%) watched QI on BBC One.
Famous And Fearless mustered just 1.24m (4.7%) between 8pm and 10pm, adding 201k on Channel 4 +1. Rude Tube 2011 followed with 1.69m (9.7%), alongside a further 256k (2.5%) on timeshift.
Over on BBC Two, Mastermind, Life In A Cottage Garden and The Sinking Of The Laconia managed respective audiences of 2.44m (9.4%), 2m (7.4%) and 2.91m (11.5%), while Titanic: The True Story, The Mentalist and CSI notched up 1.28m (4.8%), 1.23m (4.8%) and 951k (4.4%).
