Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the third episode of Baptiste 'For Blood'

The third episode of Baptiste aired on Sunday (March 3) with the shock revelation — spoiler warning — that Martha's son Niels (Boris Van Severen) is also Julien's (Tchéky Karyo) son.

The surprise came right at the end of the episode, following more explanation from Edward Stratton (Tom Hollander) about how a man's head — it was his father's — came to end up in his house, and his real relationship with Natalie.

Indeed, as Julien sent off for medical testing, viewers assumed it was over fears his cancer had come back. Nonetheless, it was actually regarding his correct suspicions that Niels is his and Martha's child — and viewers were shook.

Below are just a few of their reactions:

Baptiste fans will have to wait until next week's episode to find out if Niels will also become aware that Julien is his father, as episode three ended with Julien just learning the DNA results and furiously confronting Martha (Barbara Sarafian) about them.

Speaking about the surprise son plot twist to Digital Spy, show co-creator Harry Williams said: "We wanted this year to get more personal for Julien. His family are in trouble. He’s got a son he never knew he had.

"We just wanted to tighten the screws around our lead character, and this felt like another interesting way to do it – to give him something profoundly challenging in his personal life as well."

Oof. We're off for a lie down.

Baptiste continues at 9pm next Sunday (March 10) on BBC One.
