The first teaser for The Missing's long-awaited spin-off series Baptiste is here, and, yes, that does mean that the beloved TV detective is still alive!

The clip, which premiered on BBC One on Friday (January 4) after the finale of Luther, should give fans of The Missing a sigh of relief since Baptiste (Tchéky Karyo) was last seen going under the knife to remove a brain tumour.

He's recovered well enough to take a holiday to Amsterdam, but before long he's drawn into a local missing person's case by the city's head of police — who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend.

Baptiste ends up working with Antwerp-based expat Edward (The Night Manager star Tom Hollander) tracking down Edward's niece, who he believes is working as a call girl in Amsterdam. But is all really as it seems?

Through their investigations, they'll also cross paths with Taboo's Nicholas Woodeson and Call the Midwife actress Jessica Rain.

This spin-off for Baptiste was commissioned after The Missing and Baptiste co-creator Harry Williams admitted to Digital Spy that he didn't think it would be possible to make a standard third series of The Missing.

"We still don't want to say goodbye to Julien (Tcheky Karyo) — both the actor and the character is someone we want in our lives in some form or another," Williams told us two years ago.

Baptiste will air later this year on BBC One.
