Oculus has finally shared details about the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset that will be available to consumers next year.

At a pre-E3 event held in San Francisco, the Facebook-owned company gave a first glimpse of the device and revealed that it will use an Xbox One controller as part of a partnership with Microsoft.

A controller and adapter will come with the headset when it begins shipping in the first quarter of 2016 and users will be able to stream Xbox One games such as Halo, Sunset Overdrive and Forza.

This version of the headset is a lot like the Crescent Bay device shown last year - it uses two separate screens, one for each eye, as well as built-in headphones.

"For the first time we'll finally be on the inside of the game," Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said. "Gamers have been dreaming of this. We've all been dreaming of this for decades."
