Selfie sticks have attracted their fair share of abject hatred during their short lifetime, and Wimbledon has become the latest high-profile event to ban their use.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club has warned spectators at this year's event that they will have to find another way of framing their self-portrait shots.

"In common with many other major sports and entertainment events and cultural attractions, The Championships will not allow 'selfie sticks' into the grounds," reads an excerpt from this year's ticketholders' guide.

Elaborating on the ban, a spokesperson for the All England Lawn Tennis Club told the Sunday Times that selfie sticks are not allowed because of their "nuisance value".

Wimbledon is not the only sporting event to crack down on selfie sticks, with several football clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, also banning them.

Arts venues, such as London's National Gallery, have also prohibited their use.
