Jackie Penman, a spokesperson for the Hamilton Police Department, told CBC that frivolous 911 calls are more common than one might expect.

"Calling 911 with nuisance calls ties up our lines and makes it difficult for people with serious emergencies to get through to dispatchers," she said. "The system is meant for life and death emergencies."

After the Hamilton Police Department had a punny response to a tweet about the 911 call, Twitter users ran with McDonald's-themed play on words.
