In news that's set to shake up (sorry) the condiment industry, Heinz has announced Salad Cream is looking to change its name forever.
Say hi, hello, and welcome SANDWICH CREAM into your life. Yes, this could very well be happening.
The company has confirmed that after 104 years, the product's name is being changed to reflect the fact that, er, its actually very rarely used on salads – with research from Heinz showing that only 14% of salad cream buyers use it on their lettuce leaves.
A spokesperson told The Grocer that the name Salad Cream no longer "fairly represents the product's ingredients or usage occasions", adding that Sandwich Cream is the proposed new name because it better describes the way people are using the condiment.
The full statement read: "As a market leading business, Kraft Heinz continues to audit its portfolio in order to meet the needs of consumers.
"There are consumers now who haven't grown up with the brand in the household and just don't know about the iconic zingy flavour or what to eat it with."
