Posting to your Facebook Timeline and populating other people's News Feeds with your jabbering is the essence of the social network – well, that and checking out what your ex is up to.
But that's about to change with a new way to let Facebook users post to friends' News Feeds, while keeping more time-sensitive and embarrassing content kept away from their personal Timelines.
Although content can already be removed from your timeline – with a couple of clicks and a bit of scrolling – the new method would make things easier, with a "Hide From Your Timeline" checkbox now available on everything you post.

Discussing the move, which is currently being tested on select users, Facebook told Engadget: "The Timeline on your profile is a great place to see a comprehensive history of your Facebook posts.
"We've heard feedback that sometimes, you may want to share a post with friends and family via News Feed and not have that post be displayed on your Timeline.

"The ability to hide a post from your Timeline already exists, and today we're testing a feature that would make it even easier to control where your posts live by giving you the option to publish a post only to News Feed and not to your Timeline."
Although it's unclear when this new Facebook feature will be rolled out to the masses, when available News Feed-only posts will still show up in your search results and be listed alongside all other activity on your personal "Your Posts" page.
