You've probably been back at work for at least a couple of weeks now, and no doubt the January blues have reared their ugly head. But, friends and fellow tech fans, help is just a few screen taps away.

Nothing lifts our spirits like a digital shopping spree, and we've found the apps that will help you get the most out of your next download binge. This week's highlights include a Netflix-like subscription service for gig-goers and a fruit-themed rival to Facebook and Twitter. Bon appetit!

1. PEACH

First up, we have a Peach of a social networking app for iOS devices. This rival to Twitter, Facebook and the like is all about sharing content, from photos, videos and GIFs, to the weather, what you're about to watch on TV, and your step count - but it has an ace up its sleeve in the form of Magic Words.

These allow users to access a broad array of commands through a simple text input. For instance, typing 'draw' grants you instant access to sketching tools, while 'here' broadcasts your location.

Peach has been the flavour of the month since it dropped from the social networking tree, so do Facebook and Twitter have anything to worry about? Until the firm branches out with an Android app and web-based service, the answer is probably not - but see what you think.

Listen up, Android users - you don't have to be envious of the iPhone 6S's Live Photo capabilities any longer. Camera MX's latest app brings the same functionality to your handset.

Hitting the 'Liveshot' button at the top of the screen lets you capture short, GIF-like animations similar to the living photos Apple fans have been shouting about since the 6S debuted.

Moving pictures isn't the only function of Camera MX - there's also a bunch of image editing tools and effects for you to play around with.

Apps isn't the most inspiringly-titled app on Google Play, but if you're tired of sifting through an ocean of gaming apps to find the most useful software on the store, it might be for you.

It was founded by accident to make our lives easier, too. A while ago, someone found a hidden link to a page containing Google's top non-gaming apps, and enterprising developer Jeffrey Sera has turned it into an app of its very own.

Google Play is often criticised by people who find it hard to discover new downloads, given that its Top Paid Apps and Top Free Apps chart are dominated by irate avians and crushed candy - but this is a simple and effective way around that problem.

Musement started gaining serious traction at the end of last year when it shot to the top of the App Store chart for travel apps. Apple has since named it among its best apps to start 2016 with, and we couldn't agree more.

You may have seen this one advertised on the telly as part of Public Health England's campaign to improve the nation's wellbeing by getting us to reduce our sugar intake.

Change4Life Sugar Smart for iOS and Android is an eye-opening app that helps you keep track of the sugar you're consuming by revealing how many cubes are in everything you eat. Simply scan a barcode with your handset's camera and the app will do the rest.

It will ruin your appetite but save your life. Just wait until you see how many sugar cubes there are in a bottle of tomato sauce.

Anyone with a stylus-equipped iPad Pro will get the most out of this one, but using your digits to doodle is also viable, even if you're cursed with the porkiest of sausage fingers.

8. AIPOLY VISION

Apps aren't just about fun, they can be seriously helpful too - including this superb offering for the visually impaired. Aipoly Vision is an object and colour recognition tool that identifies anything you point your iPhone camera at.

The app feeds back either written or spoken information when you ask it to tag the colour of an object or the object itself, and its algorithms are pretty darn accurate.

Of course, these things are never dead on, but the brilliant thing about Aipoly Vision is that you can teach it to tag objects it doesn't recognise and that information will be uploaded to its servers, making the software smarter over time, and helping it claim our app of the week gong.

With this app on your side, you could one day have a coin-filled money bin to rival Scrooge McDuck. Just don't go diving head-first into it, because that would never work in real life.
