LG has introduced a new way of watching TV with high dynamic range at its CES 2015 press conference.
The company announced HDR 4K in conjunction with Netflix in Las Vegas on Monday (January 5).
The idea behind the technology is that while 4K is crucial for detail, there is a lot more to picture quality than just resolution - a concept which will be familiar to anyone who has taken an HDR photo.
In a standard image, you usually have to choose between detail in the light areas or the dark. However, HDR allows for detail in both bright and dark areas of an image.
HDR also offers more than simply better resolution, taking away the need for broadcasters to include more bandwidth for pictures - offering images with an eye-catching level of detail and a massive dynamic range.
The system also relies on new ways of shooting video, and that's why Netflix is involved - not only by streaming HDR programming, but also producing it through Netflix Originals.
