B&O recently unveiled a limited edition set of its flagship BeoPlay H6 headphones. In pictures, they looked beautiful. In real life, even more so.

Bottom line is, we don't think there is a better looking set of headphones. The blue and grey pair that were posted for test is extremely well put together.

Either side features a brushed metal plate with the B&O logo, along with little concentric circles cut out of the plate. Then you have a nicely padded set of earphones along with a simple leather headband over the top.

There is nothing fussy about the design, it's simple and looks great. Inside, there are big 'R and L' logos on each headphone to make sure you put them on the right way around.

Also included in the box is a simple cloth pouch, as well a cable for the headphones. This is detachable and can easily be replaced - and it's also able to control your iPhone.

Now, onto the sound. At £329, the H6s are right up at the top end of the 'brand' headphone range. This is a big spend, so you would expect big premium audio.

For the most part you get it, but never did the H6s leave us really thinking 'Wow'. The 40mm drivers need plenty of volume to really get going properly and the headphones are quite leaky, which means if you plan wearing them on the bus home, you might find you irritate those around you.

The mid levels and treble are extremely detailed and sound very good, as you would expect from B&O kit. But the H6s just need a bit more bass to really deliver.

We aren't saying that they need to be Beats levels of loud, just possess a little more 'oomph'.

As is always the case then with B&O kit, style takes a bit of a precedent over substance, but the gap is getting ever closer.
