The Sims 4 has made progressive changes over the past few years.
For example, Create-a-Sim includes custom gender settings allowing players to modify a Sim's features such as clothing preference and whether or not they can get pregnant regardless of their sex.
A popular Sims YouTuber named LilSimsie has gone a step further while renovating the game, eliminating gendered toilets and making them all gender neutral (h/t Kotaku).
LilSimsie has released a save in which she has extensively remade each of the game's lots, dramatically sprucing the neighbourhoods up to very high praise.
The save also includes more than 60 new Sim families. "I tried really hard to make the save pretty diverse," LilSimsie explained. "Because let's be honest, how are you going to make this many households and not have it be diverse?"
Discussing the decision to implement gender neutral toilets, she said that this was done for gameplay reasons in addition to making an effort to be inclusive.

"I went in and changed every single bathroom that was gendered to be gender neutral for a reasons," she shared.
"One, it's really irritating when you have gendered bathrooms in The Sims. When you have the walls cut away, you can't see which one's which... and you're like, 'I'm going to use this toilet', and then your Sim's like, 'Oh no, I can't use it!'
"It's also a really easy way to make something more accessible and also to make something just more inclusive."
Among other changes showcased in the video – including a new bowling alley, gym, and museum – LilSimsie unveiled a vegan restaurant which comes with its very own vegan menu.
"It's really cool of you to go back and remove gender restrictions on bathrooms," one YouTube commenter posted. "It's such a little thing but it makes the game so much more inclusive and a lot easier to play."
Another commenter said: "I'm so happy you made bathrooms gender neutral too. My non-binary Sims appreciate it."
"OMG I love that you made a vegan restaurant!" an excited fan wrote.
The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
