Channel 5 outrated Channel 4's Sex Box in the same timeslot and was also ahead of BBC Two, which aired QI XL and Newsnight across the hour.

For the first time ever, Neighbours' British broadcasts jumped ahead of those in Australia as Channel 5 had the world exclusive first screening of Josh's tearjerking death scenes.

Fans of the show were left weeping as Josh sacrificed his own life to save his former love rival Daniel Robinson when they both found themselves trapped under a concrete column after the hotel boiler room exploded.

The 'Hotel Death Trap' storyline was also seen by 787k (10.1%) at 1.45pm and 609k (4.4%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5, although these early showings did not include Josh's demise.

Neighbours' daytime screenings today (April 5) will pick up with the aftermath of Josh's death, as the Willises mourn for their lost family member.

Karl Kennedy's old flame Sarah Beaumont also makes her return - and naturally Susan won't be too pleased to see her.

There'll be more death and destruction across the week too, as some other fan favourites remain trapped in the hotel hell. Who'll be next to meet a tragic fate?
