Neighbours has announced that it is bringing two major characters back to Erinsborough later this year, one of whom hasn't been seen since 1992.

The soap is soon due to air a comeback for Glen Donnelly, played by Richard Huggett, the half-brother of Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis). Glen left Ramsay Street behind after he fell from the roof of Lassiters and suffered life-changing injuries, being diagnosed with paraplegia.

With his relationship with Paul looking irreparably damaged, Glen left Erinsborough behind without saying goodbye to his family and has not been seen since.

But Glen is set to return to the soap later this year, with his half-sister Lucy Robinson (Melissa Bell) – who was last seen in 2020 – in tow.

Actor Richard has told RadioTimes.com that returning to the soap after a 30 year absence felt "just like being back home", although Glen's return may not be so straightforward.

"Ultimately, I come back to reconnect with Lucy," Richard said of his character's reason for returning. "As you know when I left, Paul and I were not on the best of terms so I come back to see Lucy and it goes on from there with all sorts of twists and turns and cliffhangers – but no hanging off of hotel roofs this time."

Speaking of Paul, will the brothers be at each other's throats once again? Richard has teased that there will be more to their reunion than we might expect.

"I think it’s a bit more complicated than dislike because there is so much history there with the way Glen was treated, which was pretty bad, especially by Paul, and this is where the twists, turns and agendas come into play," he explained. "It will be interesting."

Richard also shared some details about Glen and Lucy's relationship, saying that the controversial romantic twist that aired between them in 1991 will be nowhere to be seen this time.

"It was half-brother, half-sister and we kissed and wanted to go further but never did and that's where the controversy came from," he said. "But there's nothing like that this time. Their bond is very much a brotherly sisterly one when we see them."

We can expect Glen to be rather different when he returns, with Richard sharing that he will be "a lot calmer" than he was during his previous stint and that he will also explain why he chose to leave so suddenly back in the 90s.

"Back then he was a troubled young man but he's grown up and he's a lot calmer now," he said. "He doesn't bite quite as easily anymore. Of course, there will be some sort of confrontation with Paul but as for how far that goes, well, who knows? We'll see."

Richard also addressed the fact that Glen will no longer use a wheelchair when viewers see him, despite his previous diagnosis.

"When I was first approached that was my question, whether Glen was still a paraplegic and if he's not, how did he get out of that?" he said. "But the way it's been dealt with I think is perfect. The writers have done a really good job at justifying why I'm not in a wheelchair anymore I think."

Glen and Lucy's returns are due to air this autumn.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
