A third ex-wife of Paul's – Rebecca Napier – turns up out of the blue, sending Paul into a meltdown. Despite Rebecca's plausible reason for visiting, Paul jumps to the conclusion that his exes are colluding to play a sick joke on him. He interrogates Gail, determined to prove his theory. He also tasks Terese with sussing out Rebecca, but both efforts are fruitless.
Terese encourages Paul to accept that sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, but Paul is convinced these coincidental appearances mean the universe is trying to tell him something.
Rebecca's return to Erinsborough causes her to reflect on the fateful night when she pushed Paul off the mezzanine balcony. When Terese catches Paul and Rebecca in a heated discussion, Rebecca challenges Paul to tell her the truth about that night.
Meanwhile, as Pierce walks away from Lassiters, he hears a faint but desperate cry for help and sprints to Elly's side. Fearing the baby is in danger, Pierce calls an ambulance and Elly is rushed to hospital. After a tense night waiting, news comes through that both Elly and the baby are okay, but Pierce isn't out of the woods yet.
Chloe wants to know why Pierce was with Elly. Pierce sheepishly confesses to confronting her about how much she was hurting Chloe, which Chloe had told Pierce in confidence. Chloe is furious, but the ordeal forces her to have an honest conversation with Elly. Both women are scared of losing their friendship but agree space is needed in order to move on from their romance.
Chloe remains angry at Pierce, wanting to know why he felt he had the right to speak for her. Pushed, a defensive Pierce blurts out that he's in love with Chloe. Thrown by his admission, Chloe doesn't know what has hit her. She's still heartbroken over Elly, but her feelings for Pierce never truly dissipated. Chloe is bewildered – is it too soon to start another romance?
