Irene and John are in high spirits when they arrive back from suit shopping, oblivious to Marilyn's apprehension of the blossoming friendship. Xander shares his suspicions to Mackenzie that John and Irene are romantically involved. With a little convincing, Mackenzie is also on the case to catch them out. She tries to find out more, but John dances around her questions.
Eventually, Mali lets the cat out of the bag. Irene and John are both gobsmacked to find out everyone thinks they're dating. John wants to set the record straight, but Irene thinks there's more fun to be had.
Meanwhile, Mali is still treading water through his financial turmoil. Rose remains encouraging and suggests various ways that Mali could seek help, but he refuses to swallow his pride. He has worked hard to get to this position and will not be accepting a bail-out.
Mackenzie and Xander suggest taking over as surf instructors in the short term. Though sceptical, this is finally a plan that Mali can get on board with.
Elsewhere, Alf's back in the Bay and sharing positive news of Roo's gradual recovery. Marilyn has heard nothing from Stunning Organics after the controversial press conference, but an online article labels Alf and Marilyn local heroes. They have destroyed the reputation of the dreadful organisation, and finally that chapter of Marilyn's life is well and truly over.
