Embarrassed after being sprung kissing Alex by Colby, Willow has it out with him. She is relieved and touched to realise – something she already knew deep down – that's he's cool and he gives the new coupling his complete blessing. Willow basks in his approval, but warns him not to tell Dean. She wants to be the one to do that in her own way and time.

After being warmly welcomed into the family by Colby, Alex learns from Willow that the reason she's so reticent about telling Dean about their relationship is because of their deep history, which involves dating. Alex is understanding and Willow is pleased at the luck she's having with her truth bombs lately. She does know, however, that telling Dean won't be so easy.

Meanwhile, Mackenzie is caught off guard when she comes across Colby in the Surf Club. While the pair exchange jabs on the surface, the unresolved sexual tension is undeniable. She continues to hit the booze to drown her sorrows and unintentionally crashes at Salt. She's mortified when she's discovered by a worried Willow, Alex and John, just waking up from a hard night on the booze and looking like death.

Mackenzie knows how this looks, so she's horrified by her own behaviour and concerned that her reputation is at stake. She enlists Dean's help, asking him to keep Colby away from Salt. Dean knows that Mackenzie still has feelings for Colby, but Mac argues it's beside the point. Off Mackenzie's desperation, Dean figures he has got no choice but to try and help her out.

After witnessing undeniable chemistry between Colby and Mackenzie, Bella finds her brother contemplative and melancholic. She tries to divert his attention, but it's clear that Mac is still under his skin and it's something Bella simply doesn't intend to put up with. Colby and Bella meet with Maggie, and Bella commits to working hard to progress into Year 12, not wanting to repeat Year 11.

Dean tells Colby about his conversation with Mac – that she wants him to keep away from Salt, and adds that Mac still has feelings for him. Bella's determination to keep them apart then goes into overdrive. Colby is heartened by Dean's information and heads off with the intention of visiting Mackenzie. Bella gets in the way and, out of sheer desperation, feigns illness to stop him from going.

Deeply worried that this is a repeat of her recent tetanus scare, Colby calls on Alex, who visits with Willow to examine her. Bella can see the worry on her brother's face. She has him right where she wants him – away from Mac.

Elsewhere, Ziggy and Dean have made amends and are on good terms. Ziggy admits to being disappointed about not getting the job but is looking at the positives – now she doesn't have to choose. Her heart is here with Dean and that is where she is planning to stay. However, when Ben and Maggie learn that Ziggy has missed out on the job, they are struggling to understand why she is so upbeat. She wanted that job more than anything.

Ziggy tries to convince her parents, as much as herself, that her life in the Bay is enough, but she quickly finds herself bored. Ziggy continues to keep up the charade, until Kurt calls from the track and offers her the job after all. Ziggy immediately accepts and celebrates, until reality dawns. When she gets the chance to tell Dean she chickens out, knowing just how badly he'll take it.
