Mason gives Maggie the pep talk that she needs for the race: she's ready and she can do this, though she needs to increase fluids due to the heat. At the same time, Simone is with Brody at Salt. As the two consider how they'll explain her presence to Ziggy and get time together today, Ziggy enters and is shocked to see Simone. On the back foot, Brody lies by saying that Simone's city job fell through before she even left and he's going to give her a job back at Salt while she gets on her feet.
Ziggy is displeased, and her disappointment only increases further when Brody backtracks on his promise to come and watch the marathon and support Maggie, as he is secretly wanting to spend more time with Simone. Ziggy storms off and at Ben's suggestion, decides to run off her frustration by participating in the second lap of the marathon, tagging out Coco who's running the first lap with Maggie.
Maggie successfully crosses the finish line, exhausted and exulted. When Ziggy finally staggers over the finish line, her family and friends are immediately aware that something is wrong. They hurry to Ziggy's side as she is on the verge of collapse. Mason steps in and takes charge of the situation, diagnosing severe heatstroke.
What to Read Next
They move Ziggy indoors to the gym and attempt to cool her down using icepacks and dehydrate her. As Mason takes her temperature, he insists that it isn't looking good and explains that they need to get her to the hospital. Leah and Coco return having searched for Brody at Salt and at the beach but are unable to locate him. Maggie tries to phone Brody to let him know, but his phone is on silent, ringing out in the pocket of his jeans which are now on the van floor. Brody and Simone get intimate between the sheets, blissfully unaware of the current crisis unfolding on the other side of the Bay.
Meanwhile, Marilyn gently suggests having another dinner with Martha. Alf thinks that'd be nice but warns Marilyn not to get attached to the idea of Martha staying. Keen to help bring them together, Marilyn makes another suggestion about going to the races as a group, but it's the last straw for Alf who's sick of the Palmers meddling. He yells at her to stop interfering.
Marilyn quietens, giving Alf space until he apologises – finally admitting that he doesn't know how things will pan out with Martha. Marilyn is understanding and accepting of the fact that she might have gone a little bit overboard.
