Meanwhile, Sam admits to Maxine that he's had a good day at the park playing football with Minnie. Wanting to help her brother even more and keep him distracted, she asks Joel to take him for a drink. Down at the pub, the two men have a good chat and Sam admits he wouldn't try to stop the termination even if he knew when it was.
However, when Sam goes by Maxine's to drop off flowers to thank her for the day, he's thrown when Vicky mentions Maxine is with Zoe discussing a hospital appointment tomorrow.
Elsewhere, after asking Joel if he'd like to move back into the Lomax house, Leela goes on to ask a much more pressing question of what exactly is going on between the two of them. Joel agrees that maybe it's time for the two of them to move onto the next stage and go on a real first date.
Donna-Marie finds Leela all dressed up waiting outside the flat, knowing there must be a man on the scene. Not wanting to lie to her best friend, she 'fesses up that her and Joel have decided to be exclusive. However, just as Leela is getting excited about the future between the pair of them, she receives a message saying he must cancel.
When Leela bumps into Maxine and in conversation mentions how Joel stood her up, Maxine is forced to admit that it was her fault as she'd asked him to go for a drink with struggling Sam. Leela goes down to the pub to find him.
