Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Angus Castle-Doughty has promised a surprising plot ending for his character Eric.

Speaking to Inside Soap, the actor said that "no one will be expecting what happens" when his storyline finally comes to a head.

Upcoming episodes of Hollyoaks will depict a conclusion of sorts to the soap's ongoing storyline exploring radicalised misogyny, ending with an hour-long special episode.

Working hard to expose Eric's crimes and true nature, Maxine finds herself in a dangerous situation after Eric discovers her in his caravan.

When Eric finds Maxine and realises she has uncovered his disturbing plans, he kidnaps her, holding her captive in the trailer. He then drives her to an abandoned location.

Teasing fans on what's to come, Angus said: "Tragedy, conflict, and resolution. It's been a year-long tease of the audience at home wondering where the storyline is going and what Eric will do."

When asked if his character has gone too far this time, he replied: "He sees himself as being on a mission, but fundamentally, Eric is a scared little boy who's missing his dead sister."

He continued: "Eric starts to let his guard down to Maxine but instantly puts it back up. It's quite sad, as there could have been a happy, redemptive story for him if Verity hadn't died."

"Verity was his beacon of hope, the only one fighting hard to engage and understand him."

Discussing the upcoming storyline where he finds Maxine snooping in his trailer, Angus said that Eric was forced to improvise.

"Maxine is in the wrong place at the wrong time and forces Eric to bring forward something he's been planning for a while," he shared. "He takes her hostage — but I don't think that part was planned. It's an improvisation in the moment."

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
