Hollyoaks will soon be getting a new character in the form of Rayne, played by Neighbours alum Jemma Donovan. And it seems Rayne will shake things up in the village – particularly for Romeo, played by Owen Warner, who recently appeared on the 22nd series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Rayne will be moving into the shared house of young friends and family, which writers brought into fruition as a callback to the earlier days of the soap.

The group, living under landlord Tom Cunningham, will feature big characters and big storylines... including romance.

Talking about her Hollyoaks character, Jemma told Inside Soap: "Rayne's an influencer, she's very confident, fun, and is here to play! But there's a whole other side to her that we'll see soon."

Alongside Rayne will come another new face: her school friend Lacey.

What to Read Next

"Lacey can deal with Rayne because she knows what she's like and they have a genuine relationship," Jemma said.

Armed with a pre-existing friendship, Rayne will snag Romeo's attention through a very telling first meeting.

Jemma explained: "They meet in the bath! Well, Rayne's in the bath and Romeo comes in, obviously not realising she's in there. It's an interesting first encounter for them.

"That first meeting has got to be foreshadowing something, right? Rayne does turn some heads, and there's a bit of competition, too. The first people she meets are Prince, Hunter, and then Romeo, but she's mostly there to have fun."

Sounds like Rayne might be keeping her options open, and Romeo will have to stand out against the crowd if he wants to gain her affection.

Compared to her old Neighbours character Harlow Robinson, Rayne is "completely different," Jemma said.

She added: "But it's great to be able to dive into a new personality and character. I was so keen to play Rayne and change it up. I hope everyone's as excited as I am to see her, and I want the Neighbours fans to watch too!"

However, it seems there's more to Rayne than initially meets the eye. As Jemma explained: "Rayne moves into the 20-something house, and they're a bit taken aback because she's a party girl. She's also very career-driven, but Rayne does have a past."

Whatever happens, it seems Rayne's arrival in the village will create plenty of drama.
