Exclusive: Hollyoaks to air hour-long special for Luke's emotional storyline

Hollyoaks bosses are lining up an hour-long special, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

The Channel 4 soap will screen the specially-extended edition in June as part of Luke Morgan's emotional storyline.

Cast and crew recently filmed in Mallorca for Luke and Cindy Cunningham's joint stag and hen celebrations. The events of the holiday will take centre stage in the 60-minute episode this June.

Along with Luke and Cindy, the Mallorca holiday features Yazz Cunningham, Tony Hutchinson, Darren Osborne, Ollie Morgan, Zara Morgan and Tom Cunningham.

Haiesha Mistry, who plays Yazz, exclusively told Digital Spy: "There are a couple of episodes set abroad, but one is an hour special. That's very exciting. It took me a while to finish reading it!

"I was just so excited to read the Mallorca scenes. When I'm reading the scripts, my reactions are just the same as a fan who's watching the show, because I want to see what happens.

"When we're taken away on location for a specific story like this, I get really excited about it."

As Digital Spy exclusively revealed earlier this month, the Mallorca episodes will also feature former EastEnders star Matt Lapinskas playing a gangster called Alex, who crosses paths with the stag party guests.

Luke was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in December 2019 and his condition has been deteriorating in recent months.

The show recently aired a heartbreaking flashforward scene confirming that Luke's funeral will take place in July.

Hollyoaks has already aired one hour-long special this year, as the explosion at Marnie Nightingale's patisserie took centre stage in an extended edition in January.

In September 2021, the show also aired an hour special for Channel 4's Black to Front Day, which featured an all-Black cast.

Hollyoaks now streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
