Hollyoaks star calls for return of Grace Black's dark side

Tamara Wall, who plays Grace Black on the long-running soap Hollyoaks, has expressed her wish for Grace's 'dark side' to return in forthcoming episodes.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Wall said: "This year, I really want Grace to go even further. I want her to do her stupid schemes that go wrong, and have fun. Over the past year, Grace has been a bit downtrodden – but now she has the club back, I'm looking forward to her getting back to her old self."

This sentiment comes after recent scenes involving Grace and her boyfriend Saul, who is a police officer. Considering that Grace is the village's 'resident bad girl', it seems interesting that Saul is her choice of man, but it's clear that she does really like him.

However, he's putting her in a tough position, according to Wall: "Saul basically tells Grace to choose him and go straight, or they're over! It's tough to film, because Chris [Charles, the actor who plays Saul] is so lovely in real life, so it's really difficult to be nasty to him."

Wall is hoping that Grace doesn't capitulate to Saul's demands she make an honest living though. She said, "I love it when Grace does all the bad stuff! It's not often you get to do bad things with no punishment – that's why I love my job."

Additionally, Wall is hoping that Grace "never gets a happy ending because it would be boring!"

It's clear that Wall doesn't yet know what's in store for her character in regards to Saul and her 'dark side', but she did tease that Grace will be making "another friend soon – and of course, they're getting into trouble together."

Grace recently became friends with Martine (Kéllé Bryan) on the show, her first close female friendship after Esther Bloom left the village in 2018 – who Wall is "rooting" to return to Hollyoaks one day, as sh was "the last great friend Grace had."

Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
