Hollyoaks star Kyle Pryor has revealed that there'll be "a lot of tension" between Sinead and Laurie Shelby after the unsettling events of the show's latest episode.

Monday's E4 first look edition saw Sinead (Stephanie Davis) left with a visible bruise on her wrist, after Laurie became forceful when they were kissing.

The shock moment followed an evening of tension for the married couple, who'd been arguing after Sinead accused Laurie of having an affair with Sienna Blake.

Afterwards, Sinead was forced to take a painkiller because she was so uncomfortable, while viewers were left to wonder whether Laurie had done it on purpose.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the scene, Kyle – who plays Laurie – explained: "It's a traumatic situation for Sinead. But to a certain degree, it's a grey area where Sinead doesn't know whether that was a one-off or not, or whether it will happen again.

"It's a terrible act, but you don't really know at this point whether it's something that is going to continue.

"There is a lot of tension after it, but it's unclear as to what exactly happened in that situation – and whether it's something that Laurie has a history of doing."

Tuesday's E4 first look episode will see Sinead show Laurie her bruise and explain how he hurt her the night before, but he acts shocked. Will he manage to talk her round again?

Kyle has previously told Digital Spy that Laurie is secretly getting a kick out of Sinead's jealousy as he continues to spend time with Sienna.

"It's something that Laurie does enjoy," he explained. "Again, it's a power struggle and he enjoys being in control.

"There's a lot of gaslighting and emotional and psychological manipulation that's occurring here. Anytime Sinead is jealous, he will act aggressively."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
