Emmerdale's Mark Charnock has promised that there'll be some lighter material coming up for his character Marlon Dingle.

The actor, who's played Marlon since 1996, told Digital Spy at the British Soap Awards that he's "thrilled to bits" with the storyline he's currently filming.

"It's really hard not to give the storyline away! There's some really beautiful scripts coming through, having lots of comedy which is really nice," he said.

"I'm doing some great stuff with Dominic (Brunt), who plays Paddy. I can't tell you more!

"But it's not just for my stuff but the soap in general – there's stuff that's coming up that I think is going to pull the rug from under the audience's expectations."

Could Marlon's upcoming storyline possibly involve local teacher Jessie Grant, who has been growing closer to Marlon over the past few months?

"Maybe, maybe not. I couldn't possibly say," Mark teased. "But what I will say is I've been having some really lovely scripts so I'm thrilled to bits with the story."
