Emmerdale looks set to strengthen Charity Dingle's new relationship even further later this year, as she confides in Vanessa Woodfield about her troubled past.
Charity and Vanessa – dubbed 'Vanity' by fans – have been romantically involved since kissing in The Woolpack's cellar last year and viewers saw things finally get serious last week.
When Vanessa tested her on-off lover by heading to a gay bar, she was pleasantly surprised when Charity got jealous and sought her out there.
The fun scenes led to Charity finally admitting how much Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) means to her, paving the way for an emotional new chapter for the couple.
New Emmerdale spoilers have now revealed that Charity will confide in Vanessa with a dark secret from her past in the not-too-distant future.
Charity's revelations will give fans more of an insight into her backstory than ever before, 18 years after her first appearance in the show.
What to Read Next
Charity's secret has yet to be revealed, but last year one tabloid report claimed that she could be reunited with a secret son, who she reportedly gave up for adoption when she became pregnant after being the victim of a sexual assault. However, this rumoured storyline twist remains unconfirmed by Emmerdale at this stage.
Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, recently told us that her character's feelings for Vanessa are totally genuine.
"There's no manipulation going on – it's actually genuine, kind and loving," she explained. "Charity has perhaps not been used to that. She's often been the unkind one, and she's found herself maybe being a bit nicer. She can't believe it."
She added: "I do love playing someone so far removed from my own personality. I wouldn't dream of talking to people the way Charity does. So it's quite cathartic to get to do that.
"However, I think life and personalities are layered and someone who's a bitch always has another side to them. It might not come out in front of people. But it's interesting to explore the rich dynamics of Charity's personality, because no-one's just a bitch, and no-one's all nice either. I always question people who are too nice!"
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
