Emmerdale's Charlotte Bellamy has had her share of dramatic storylines as Laurel Thomas, but her latest – a fling with the married Bob Hope – has left her feeling guilty on behalf of her long-running character.
"I felt guilty reading the scripts myself," she told The Daily Star when asked if Laurel feels bad for breaking up Bob's marriage.
"But this is what happens in life, you can't plan things and that's the story they're telling."
She continued to add that Laurel's actions don't make her a bad person, and says that it's nice to have a bit of "conflict" in the character.
"Laurel is a character who's a really moral, good person, rather like when she turned into an alcoholic – that doesn't mean she's a bad person," she said.
"So I think the audience will enjoy seeing the conflict. And also because Laurel is so nice, it's good having a bit of dynamic to the character, otherwise she's just one dimensional."

Despite Bob having previously been rejected by Lauren, the couple are set to reunite next week after a car accident that Laurel is involved in leaves Bob fearing the worst.
When Jimmy King accidentally reverses into Laurel with his car, Bob is devastated when he hears about it and rushes over to check on her, with his frantic emotional state soon serving to reignite the chemistry between the pair.
Speaking of the new twist for her character, Charlotte described the relationship between Laurel and Bob as "a little bit complicated" – which is a bit of an understatement.
"She doesn't want to fall for it because he's otherwise engaged. So that's not the best start to any relationship," Charlotte adds.
"I think [fans] will understand the dilemma but I don't know, I think [reaction will] be very much split. Some people will take the moral high ground, which I totally understand.
"Others will maybe want to see them together. I really don't know – but they'll let me know!"
