Viewers have already seen some challenging times for Rachel's relationship with Sam Dingle (James Hooton), but their problems will intensify over the coming weeks.

When Rachel finds herself under serious pressure due to Jai Sharma wanting full custody of their son Archie, she starts taking her anger out on her innocent boyfriend.

Sam will struggle with bearing the brunt of Rachel's frustrations, but exact details of how the story plays out have yet to be revealed.

Speaking of her upcoming exit, Oaten commented: "It was fantastic coming back to Emmerdale for the surprise return in January. Keeping it a secret was hard and I didn't even tell some of my closest family and friends.

"I was thrilled to stay longer than the couple of months I was originally contracted for and I'm now looking forward to my next chapter and future roles."

She added: "I don't want to give away details about my exit other than to say there is a lot more to happen before I go - and I'm very excited and proud of what's coming up on Emmerdale."

Oaten's original stint as Rachel ran between 2011 and 2014.
