Emmerdale star Olivia Bromley has teased further details about the big scenes coming up for her character Dawn Fletcher in the build-up to Christmas, as Dawn dramatically goes into labour at the Christmas fair.
Since Dawn and her husband Billy discovered over the summer that they were expecting a child together, Dawn has put a lot of effort into planning her pregnancy and birth - but she's forced to adjust her birth plan as her baby starts to make its arrival in the week beginning December 18.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Olivia explained why her character has been putting herself under so much pressure to do things right when it comes to her pregnancy.

"Dawn has obviously previously had quite a traumatic experience being pregnant when she was addicted to heroin at the time and had her baby taken away from her," the actress explained as she spoke about Dawn's first pregnancy with son Lucas Taylor.

"So I think this second chance at pregnancy, she wants to do everything totally different and almost is putting herself under extreme pressure to be the perfect mother and pregnant person."
With Dawn having planned a drug-free water birth, she's upset when she goes into labour at a less-than-ideal time.
"She wants it to be perfect, but of course, as in life these things don't always go to plan and so she actually ends up going into labour at the Christmas Fair where she's not with Billy, she's actually with Aaron [Dingle] at the time," Olivia explained.

"That is not her expected labour, but in the end she does manage to get back on her drug-free plan and they have a healthy baby."
Thankfully, while Aaron "does play a part" in Dawn's labour, it's actually Kim Tate who takes on the role of birthing partner for Dawn - a story element which Olivia enjoyed.
"Kim is eventually a great help, and that's a really nice element because Kim and Dawn have had a really difficult past," Olivia said. "Now Kim and Dawn have almost like a mother and daughter relationship, slightly from afar but they're getting closer and closer, so Kim being asked to be the birthing partner is a massive deal for both of them.
"Yes, Kim is involved and does help with the birth. Everybody's involved - Will's involved, Billy is there too. It's a big family affair this birth but it's really lovely for Christmas. It's a wholesome, joyful Christmas experience, and it goes to plan."

Speaking about filming her character's birth scenes, the actress confirmed that she "did quite a lot of research" into water births and added that her co-star Jay Kontzle, who plays Billy, "was really helpful because he's had his own kids".
"It's just a big challenge as an actor to do this kind of thing, especially if you've not experienced it," she said. "It's a difficult thing, and also we talked about it's really easy to make these things very overly dramatic but inherently they are quite dramatic things, so it was an interesting balance to find."
Olivia admitted that she was "terribly nervous" about filming with the 12-day-old baby that played Dawn's newborn, but added that the experience was "very beautiful".

After their baby boy's arrival, Dawn and Billy name him Evan, after Billy's late dad - something which is an important moment for Billy.
"Billy's dad's not been seen on screen or anything, because Billy had such a difficult relationship with Al [Chapman, Billy's stepdad], it's very important to him," Olivia said. "It's a nice gesture for the two of them."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
