Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Jacob Gallagher is forced to lie to the police next week in the aftermath of his stabbing incident.

Jacob received a life-threatening injury this week as a scuffle with Leyla Cavanagh's drug dealer Callum went horribly wrong.

In next week's episodes, Jacob continues to recover in hospital after undergoing successful surgery.

Jacob worries when his dad David Metcalfe warns him that he'll have to lie to the police about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

Earlier this week, David and Leyla realised that they couldn't name Callum as the culprit without running the risk of implicating Jacob too.

As Jacob was the one who brought a knife to the scene, David and Leyla suspected that Callum could turn the tables by getting him in serious trouble with the police.

Although Jacob is conflicted about lying to the police, he ultimately commits to the deception when an officer questions him.

The next day, Leyla asks David for an update on what Jacob has told the police.

David refuses to give away any details, still determined to cut Leyla out of Jacob's life.

David bitterly blames Leyla for Jacob's injuries, aware that the stabbing wouldn't have happened if Leyla hadn't been tempted by drugs again.

Leyla is upset when David reasserts his demands for her to stay away from Jacob, but will she agree to this? And how does Jacob feel about Leyla after what happened?

Meanwhile, away from the Jacob dramas, David also ponders over the future following his decision to sell his struggling shop.
