Emmerdale airs verdict of Naomi's trial

Emmerdale has confirmed that Naomi would only be convicted of a lesser offence in the trial over Nicola's attack.

This week has seen Naomi stand trial alongside Saskia and her former friends for the attack on Nicola King earlier in the year.

While Naomi has acknowledged being at the scene of the attack, she has always denied actually taking part — though Saskia has managed to unite the other girls against her to make her look guilty.

After Saskia's mask slipped in full view of the court, it looked like there might be hope for Naomi when it came time for the verdict in Friday's (November 11) episode.

Naomi was being supported by her family ahead of the verdict, but admitted that jail "might be the better option" after publicly outing Saskia.

At the court, Nicola explained to Jimmy that the verdict could prove to be cold comfort because if the judge locked the girls up, what they'd done will still be in her head.

In the end, Naomi was only found guilty of affray while the others were convicted of assaulting Nicola. Naomi was relieved the court believed her, especially as Ethan explained she'd likely get community service rather than any prison time.

Back at home, Nicola confessed to Jimmy that she felt no sense of justice because all the trial had done was make her relive the traumatic incident.

Before the episode closed, Naomi admitted to her family that she was worried the affray conviction would hurt her standing in the village.

"Half the Dingles have been in prison," Charles pointed out as the family shared a laugh.

Nicola soon turned up to make peace with Naomi, only to find the family celebrating the verdict. Angered by their happiness, Nicola insisted that they'd "never really cared" about her.

"Making out like you cared how I felt? I was stupid enough to believe it," Nicola told them. "If you gave a damn, you'd have at least come around to see how I am after the trial, instead of partying the night away."

The Andersons were left feeling dejected as Nicola stormed out after telling Charles all he'd cared about was keeping Naomi out of jail.
