Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Liam Fox has spoken to Digital Spy about the show's upcoming 50th anniversary plans.

The ITV soap hits its milestone this October and fans will be hoping for some huge storylines after the success of the 40th anniversary ten years ago.

In October 2012, the big birthday celebrations included a live special, two births and two weddings.

Liam's character Dan Spencer was among those taking centre stage, as he tied the knot with Chas Dingle.

When Digital Spy caught up with Liam on the British Soap Awards red carpet, we asked how much the producers have told him about the anniversary at this stage.

He replied: "Not a great deal, really! I've heard a few rumours, obviously that I can't divulge. But I would imagine it's going to be pretty spectacular.

"After the 40th and the live [episode] ten years ago, I didn't think they could match that. But I think they may well, from what I know.

"Can't say much else, can I really? But it'll be good!"

The 40th anniversary featured the death of Emmerdale's long-standing bad boy Carl King. This set the tradition for other high-stakes storylines each October, keeping the cast on their toes.

On whether Emmerdale stars are worried about potential death plots, Liam said: "I think so. It's weird as we've only just started socialising again recently, so we've not had time to talk about whether we're nervous or not.

"But I think a few people would be. I can neither confirm nor deny whether there will be deaths, but it'll be interesting."

Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson has previously promised a month-long celebration when the show turns 50.

Jane told Digital Spy and other media in January: "We're going to be having a golden month of celebration to mark our 50th. There are going to be mind-blowing stunts, more heartbreaks, secrets and lies are revealed. It's going to be the gift that keeps on giving and the party no-one wants to end.

"Our 2022 is very much going to be building our stories for the 50th golden month of celebrations. We need to make this the biggest year we've ever had."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
