Emmerdale star Laura Norton has opened up on how she found love with her former soap co-star, Mark Jordon, admitting that she sometimes finds the situation "bizarre".

Laura, who plays Kerry Wyatt on the soap, and Mark, who portrayed Daz Spencer in 2014 and again between 2017 and 2019, met on the Emmerdale set and got engaged in late 2018, before welcoming a baby son named Jesse in January 2021.

Laura has now revealed to Inside Soap that the spark between the couple wasn't actually instant, but that they fell for each other later down the line.

"[The Emmerdale set] was where we first met, but no it wasn't love at first sight!" she said. "We didn't have a chance to get to know each other properly at first as Mark was only there for two weeks.

"Our paths crossed later, we became close friends, then the unexpected happened and now we have a baby – it's bizarre when I think about it!"

The couple clearly have a far more settled home life than their characters ever have done on screen, but Laura also spoke about how much fun she has filming some of Kerry's more outrageous and over-the-top scenes.

In fact, one of her favourite ever episodes to film has been Kerry's wedding to her former husband Dan Spencer (Liam Fox), with Laura calling the scenes "brilliant".

"We were filming 12 episodes a fortnight building up to it, and then we had this huge ceremony," she said. "It was summer, the weather was amazing – so were the costumes – and then we had to learn this ridiculous dance to Beyoncé. It was so much fun!"

While Kerry does have her daughter Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) to lean on, she hasn't formed many close friendships among the other villagers. But Laura has a very clear idea of who she'd like to see Kerry hanging out with more.

"I find Kerry to be a bit of a loner as she always has a lot on. In a way, she's everybody's friend and nobody's friend because she's a good-time girl," she explained.

"But I do think about Kerry and Paddy being best friends, there's something in that. And whenever I have a scene with Dominic Brunt, it's always hysterical!"

We hope the village is ready for a Kerry and Paddy team-up...

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
